Years ago, when I was homeschooling my three kids, we placed an order with a friend from Murray McMurry Hatchery for three silkie chickens to use as a science project. That was my only experience with any hatchery so when it was time to populate a chicken coop, I went with the only thing I knew.

I placed my first order for chicks in December of 2020 to be delivered the first of February and a second order in January 2021 to be delivered two weeks later. Their website had a great description of each type of bird and the ordering process was a breeze. Their minimum orders were not high at all and their prices were great!

When the week in February got here that I was to receive my order I got anxious and called to ask what to expect as far as arrival steps. I was told when I called that they had rescheduled my delivery date because the weather had shifted and it was colder than normal. I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t a process in place to let me know that. If I hadn’t called, I wouldn’t have known. Of course, I completely understood because I didn’t want chicken popsicles arriving at my house!

When the weather warmed up, the chicks arrived. I got both orders on the same day because of the delay.

I don’t know if it was to make up for the delay, or just their standard practice, but in my boxes were 5 extra chicks I had not paid for. I was so surprised and excited! I was amazed at the packaging and how well thought out it was. All the chicks were all running around and strong little birds when I unpacked them.

I did have 2 layers and 2 meat birds not survive the first few days but I now know that that is the name of the game. Even the most seasoned chicken owners will lose some babies from time to time.

Today, my layers are almost 23 weeks old and strong beautiful birds. We have had no issues with sickness or death since those first few days and we are in love with these birds!

I highly recommend Murray McMurray Hatchery and will definitely be making future purchases from them!

I was not paid or compensated in any way for this review. I purchased this item and have given my opinion after using it myself on my personal farm.
