For quite some time I have been a follower of Kevin Espiritu’s journey with both of his YouTube channels, Epic Gardening and Epic Homesteading but I just recently purchased his book, Grow Bag Gardening. Here are my thoughts on his advice.
I have been an avid grow bag user for years now. I enjoy the structure and flexibility they bring to a garden. And frankly, they are just easy for me to use. And when I bought my first round of bags I just threw some potting soil in them, amended with some fertilizer, and popped the plants in. Success!
However, there has always been this one thing or that one thing that made me continue with raised beds and in-ground gardening. Until now! With this book, I could ditch the other ways of gardening and just stick to the bags I love. I won’t…but I could!
Kevin spent 170+ pages extensively explaining why to use grow bags, how to use grow bags and even included some ways that they could fail. Once you read this book you will be able to create a beautiful grow bag garden of your own.
Did you know that you can grow ANY veggie and most fruits, including fruit trees, in grow bags? Well after reading this book you will see just how. Kevin explains choosing the right size of bag, how to trellis, and what soils and amendments to use for success with anything you can imagine to grow.
Have you heard that grow bags are hard to keep watered? Well…Kevin has you covered. He offers several suggestions to make keeping your plants watered and happy with little effort. I will admit, I will be implementing one of his suggestions in the coming months so my next growing season will be much more effortless with my grow bags!
Kevin even included tips on cleaning and maintaining grow bags, soil inside the bags and choosing the right placement for the bags.
If you have ever been interested in grow bag gardening, this book is for you. You will be inspired to start right now gathering your supplies and making your plan for your own grow bag garden!
