Any good homesteader will at some point consider if growing their own meat is a good idea. The cost of animals, feed and shelter costs, and spacing each type of animal needs to thrive will all have to be factored into the decision.
We decided, early on, that we really wanted to provide our own protein as well as fruits and veggies. So we started right away! To date, we have successfully raised and processed 40 meat chickens and 9 turkeys. In addition, we have 25 egg layers that are currently giving us about 18 eggs every two days. We feel, at this point, that we have Poultry mastered!
