I started making this chili years ago when we decided to try paleo eating. Well…that faded quickly but this recipe is so delicious that it stuck as a family favorite. Bonus…nearly all of the ingredients are things from my farm!

2 lbs of ground beef (I get this in a order from my favorite beef farm)
1 medium onion – grown here
4 cloves of garlic – grown here
1 red bell pepper – grown here
1 green bell pepper – grown here
1 jalapeno pepper (deseeded) – grown here
28 oz crushed or diced tomatoes – grown here
15 oz tomato sauce – grown and processed here
1 tbsp chili powder – organic from store but could grow here
1 tbsp oregano – grown and dried here
1/2 tbsp basil – grown and dried here
1/2 tbsp cumin – organic from store – not sure how you would do this but I’m sure you could
1 tsp kosher salt – store
1 tsp black pepper – growing mine now
1/2 tsp cayenne – grown here

Throw it all in a crockpot in the morning and eat for dinner. Save left overs for the next day or so, or throw in the freezer and heat back up down the road!

I love recipes like this because it makes two meals for Sam and me and as you can see, I only bought 5 ingredients for two full meals. I will be the first to say that you shouldn’t start homesteading just to save money because…HAHAHAHA! But, when you find a recipe that you can grow nearly every ingredient, I call that a huge win!
